Funky Junk in the Kitchen: Finding Lids for Old Jars
By: A Cat Eye Girl  -  5/24/2011

We love old funky junk for the kitchen -- jars included -- especially funky old glass jars with embossed patterns, company logos and taglines. Trouble is, it’s easier to find the jar than the lid or, harder yet, the funky old jar with its original lid.

We know of two solutions to the "missing lid" dilemma:

1.  Dig deep in the recesses of estates -- basements, sheds, garages and barns.  Zero in on the cardboard box, on the shelf with other “canning” supplies.  You just might find treasure . . . an old replacement lid for your prized glass jar.Funky junk, funky junk show

2.  Kennedy Hardware dot com. Their online store carries new, replacement lids for old spice and glass coffee jars.

Here is what you will need to find the exact jar lid you are looking for at Kennedy Hardware:

1.  Diameter of the lid you are looking for.

2.   A little patience.  Jar lids in Kennedy Hardware's online store are only identified by an “item number” which means nothing without following the “see details” link.  Follow the "see details" link and you will find slim descriptions -- what the lid is made of and its diameter.

Having used this store many times to find replacements, you too might discover that actually calling their 1-800 number is less taxing on your time than navigating their online store.

That said, here is the upshot . . . their shipping is fast, customer service is great and their lids are priceless . . .  when you need one to make your funky junk "find" complete!

We love jars and think they are the kittens mittens when it comes to funky junk for the kitchen. Old glass jars house smaller collections of funky junk, like a “beach in a jar” (found objects from your last trip to Canon Beach) or “priceless pieces of funky junk,” like the collection of small trinkets and kits and kabootles you inherited last year and aren’t quite sure what to do with (vintage playing cards, fountain pens, souvenir coins, sewing gadgets, baking implements, marbles et al).
